The Unit was founded in 1967 as a Venture Scout Unit, and is now run in the same spirit, catering for Explorer Scouts and the Scout Network. Our activity has traditionally involved outdoor pursuits such as mountaineering, rock climbing, canoeing, kayaking, hill walking, orieteering, bouldering and similar adventurous activities. We have always strived to ensure members have the best opportunities to get out and take part in these activities, as well as complete various training and award schemes such as the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Queen's Scout Award as well as coaching qualifications in kayaking, climbing, swimming, lifeguarding and others so that there will always be people available to pass on what they have learned to the younger generations.

We have a 40 year Photo Archive on the Online Photography Community Flickr - there are hundreds of photos (sorted into decades: 1970s, 1980s, 1990s & 2000s) - take a look and see if you can spot yourself or one of your friends with a silly haircut!
Volunteering & Fundraising
With a large membership, we are often able to lend a hand to the comminity when needed; whether it's providing volunteers to help marshal an event, or bagpacking at a shopping outlet. We gratefully accept any donations towards our funds. If you are looking for volunteers for something, get in touch and we'll see if we can help.
About The Website
The website was designed by me (Ben Nuttall). I'm a Unit member in the Network and was on the Exec committee for two years before moving away to university. I am a Queen's Scout (oh yehh!) and my name is on the honours board at Helmton Hall. I still keep the website running from university with help from a few current Unit members. If you have any questions about the site or pretty much anything else, just send me an email.
